Manufacturer Recalls Nearly 1,500 Defective Tires

Double Camel and Lionshead Specialty Tire and Wheel have issued a recall on 1,440 Vail Sport ST LH 99 tubeless trailer tires, as the tires fail to comply with safety standards according to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety requirements.

The official Recall Acknowledgement from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration describes the unseating or failure of the tire increases the risk of a crash. Gordon & Partners is investigating injury claims associated with the use of the Vail Sport ST LH 99 tubeless tires manufactured from Jul. 14, 2013 through Jul. 27, 2013.

Under prolonged use, the affected tires can fail and increase the risk of vehicle accident, which could seriously harm vehicle occupants or other motorists. According to the Safety Defect and Noncompliance Report, Double Camel was aware of the defect by the end of July 2013 and decided the tires were not compliant with safety standards Jul. 28, 2013. The company cited the following possibilities for product failure: inadequacy in materials; inadequate follow-up in work instructions by workers; foreign matter between the tread and sidewall of tire.
