Multi-vehicle collision in Palm Beach Gardens, FL leaves two North Palm Beach residents dead and closes the Florida Turnpike for close to five hours early Tuesday morning. According to reports from the law enforcement officials on scene, Robert Hausman and Jamie Clifford Auxier were traveling on the Turnpike in an SUV when Hausman lost control of the vehicle.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the SUV flipped in the northbound lanes between the Beeline Highway the PGA Blvd. exits. Hausmans overcorrection led to the flipping of the SUV, leaving the undercarriage of the vehicle facing oncoming traffic.
Leroy Thompson, a truck driver from Miami Gardens, was en route to Port St. Lucie to pick up another load from his distribution center when he spotted a Palm Beach County Sherriff vehicle with lights on pulled over on the right side of the road.
In an attempt to adhere to the Florida move-over law Thompson switched into the left-most lane. Unfortunately due to the dark morning, the undercarriage of the SUV was displayed to oncoming traffic, not the vehicles lights. Before Thompson had a chance to react, he crashed into the flipped SUV. The SUV immediately burst into flames following the collision.
