A typical afternoon walk on Monday led to the death of three-year-old Priscila Perez-Gaspar after a freak car accident. The young girls babysitter took her out for a walk near the family's home on Kirk Road, just south of Lake Worth Road, when Steven W. Barnes lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the toddler.
Barnes, 56, of Lake Worth was driving his 2006 GMC Sierra and travelling south on Kirk Road when he swerved east on the roadway driving through a residential parking lot, hitting the girl, and then continuing through a fence and shrubs to another residential lot. An investigation is still underway and they are trying to determine if Barnes suffered from a medical episode causing him to veer out of control.
Barnes remained on the scene of the accident but was not taken into custody as the investigation continues.
Perez-Gaspar was transported by Trauma Hawk to St. Marys Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. Gordon & Doner sends their condolences to the Perez-Gaspar family for their loss.
