The city is also marked by the enormous bicycle riding population that exists both throughout and around the outside of campus. In an effort to raise awareness about the sport, as well as address a general public concern about cycling safety, the city of Gainesville will be conducting a public survey. The survey hopes to achieve a number of things that will help the overall safety of the roads surrounding the University of Florida.
The majority of Team Florida Cycling, UF's bicycle organization, recalls being hit by a passing vehicle more than one while traveling on the perilous Gainesville roads.
