GM RECALL NOTICE: Power Steering Fault Issue Affects More Than 1 Million Vehicles

Just one day before current General Motors CEO Mary Barra appears before Congress to testify on the recent nationwide ignition recall, the automaker has issued yet another recall that may affect more than 1.3 million vehicles.

According to the National Highway traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall has been issued due to some GM, Saturn and Pontiac models experiencing a sudden loss of power steering capabilities.

The list of affect models include:

• Pontiac G6 (2005 model year and some 2006, 2008 and 2009 models)
• Saturn Ion (all 2004-2007 models)
• Saturn Aura (some 2008 and 2009 models)
• Chevrolet Malibu (2004-2005 models and some 2006, 2008 and 2009 models)
• Chevrolet Malibu Maxx (2004-2005 models and some 2006 models)
• Chevrolet HHR non-turbo (some 2010 models)
• Chevrolet Cobalt (some 2010 models)

In a statement released by Jeff Boyer, GM’s vice president for global vehicle safety:

“With these safety recalls and lifetime warranties, we are going after every car that might have this problem, and we are going to make it right…. We have recalled some of these vehicles before for the same issue and offered extended warranties on others, but we did not do enough.”
