West Palm Beach Construction Worker Falls down Elevator Shaft

A construction worker was taken to St. Marys Medical Center Wednesday afternoon after he fell down an elevator shaft in West Palm Beach.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was working at a construction site near North Congress Avenue, just south of Palm Beach Lakes boulevard when he fell about 35 feet down. Although he was conscious, local fire rescue noted that he had suffered some injuries.

Construction workers face a number of hazards each and every day. This industry is considered one of the most dangerous and in 2012, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that more than 800 people were fatally injured in a construction accident.
