Flagler County Sherriff’s Office responded to a traffic crash early this morning and one of the deputies was involved in a collision of their own on the way. Just prior to 6:40 am this morning, Deputy Christopher Crego was traveling near West Back Point Road to respond to a vehicle crash in the area. On his way there, his cruiser struck a van that was on the state road.
The operator of the van was killed upon the flipping of their vehicle and has yet to be named. The Deputy was taken to Daytona Beach’s Halifax Hospital to treat his non-life-threatening wounds. However, the officer required surgery for the damages that were suffered.
The accident took place on Florida 100, which will be completely shut down in both directions today as the Florida Highway Patrol investigates the details of the motor vehicle collision. The Florida Highway Patrol will continue its investigation into the events that preceded the crash to ensure that a similar collision does not occur in the future.
