James Fuller, a 16-year-old resident of Coral Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a truck at the intersection of Wiles and Rock Island roads on Saturday night.

Fuller was hit by a Ford truck being driven by Matthew Hoyt who was driving westbound and entered the intersection on a flashing yellow light. Fuller was pedaling north across Wiles Road on Rock Island on a flashing red light.

Hoyt was not injured in the crash and the investigation remains under investigation. Poor visibility may have been a factor in the accident. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Eric Schuster at the Coral Springs Police Department Traffic Unit.

Florida is considered one of the most dangerous states for pedestrians and cyclists. Bicycle accident fatalities represent five percent of all accident fatalities. Miami-Dade and Broward County have the highest number of bicycle fatalities and injuries.
