Four Water-Related Accident Deaths over Memorial Day Weekend

Water-related accidents in Palm Beach County led to at least four deaths over Memorial Day weekend.

Sunday evening in Canal Point, a 1998 Ford Contour left the road, drifted into an embankment and rolled over into a nearby canal. The vehicle occupants became trapped underwater in the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were killed. According the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office, the victims are the 50th and 51st automobile accident fatalities of the year.

In Boca Raton on Monday, a lawn care worker was killed after he became trapped under a lawnmower that became submerged in a pond. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital. His identity has not yet been released, but police believe the man was in his early to mid-20s.

In Greenacres, the body of a man was found floating in a canal. The violent crimes division of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s department, as well as other law enforcement units, were dispatched. No visible signs of trauma were detected, but an autopsy will be conducted.

Also on Monday, a 2-year-old boy in Boynton Beach nearly drowned in a back yard swimming pool. During a game of hide and seek, an older child exited the home and did not shut the sliding glass door to the back yard. The toddler exited the home and fell into the pool. Family members quickly got the child out of the water, and he was transported to a nearby hospital. The toddler is expected to be alright.
